HI, I'M SHANNON

Hi, Iā€™m Shannon! Iā€™ve spent over 24 years behind the mic at 98 KUPD-FM, where Iā€™m dedicated to crafting compelling audio content and connecting with listeners. My passion for radio drives everything I do, from broadcasting to helping others elevate their podcasts.

MY STORY

When I was in the 7th grade, my passion for radio ignited as I listened to the local morning show host every day before school. I was captivated by how he held the attention of so many listeners, using sound effects, storytelling, and creative bits to craft a theater of the mind.

Determined to pursue this dream, I attended Arizona State University, aiming for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. However, after my first semester, my GPA didnā€™t meet the requirements. Undeterred, I explored various majors before settling on Interdisciplinary Studies.

During my senior year, I applied to several radio stations, eventually landing a job at a station whose sister station was my dream workplace. I believed that being close to my goal would help me get my foot in the door.

In the winter of 1999, I interviewed at 93.3 FM and was hired in January 2000. A year later, my persistence paid off when I joined 98 KUPD-FM, the very station where Iā€™d first heard that morning show host.

As of 2024, Iā€™m proud to have celebrated 24 years in radio, with 23 of those years at KUPD.

WHY DO I TEACH?

Ā

My love for radio is matched by my passion for teaching, which stems from my commitment to doing things right and finding efficient solutions. This drive led me to earn a masterā€™s degree in secondary education and become a high school English teacher in 2005. When podcasting emerged, I saw many struggling with technical and presentation aspects. With nearly seven years of on-air experience by 2013, I knew I could help. Thatā€™s why I teachā€”to empower others to find their voice and succeed in their podcasting journey.

MY VALUES

Be Unapologetically You.

Thereā€™s only one you, and your unique voice deserves to be heard. Podcasting is a powerful way to express who you truly are and share that with the world.

I believe that guiding others in their podcasting journey not only amplifies their voice but also helps them find deeper satisfaction in their work. Iā€™m passionate about empowering creators to discover their strengths, connect with their audience, and continually learn and grow. Together, we can create content that resonates and makes a difference.
